Ceasefire can’t be one-sided, let Pak, militants show restraint, Govt will reciprocate, says BJP

‘Pakistan as a Muslim country should respect ceasefire agreement during Ramzan’

Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National president and In-charge J&K affairs, Avinash Rai Khanna on Friday said that ceasefire can’t be one-sided and asked Pakistan to show respect to the ceasefire agreement during the holy month of Ramzan.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) he said, “Ceasefire has to be from both sides be it the militants attacking government forces in plains in Jammu and Kashmir or Pakistan violating ceasefire on borders. We never target Pakistan but the troops of that country fire on our borders and killings of both forces personnel and civilians pains us. Pakistan is a Muslim country and should show respect to the ceasefire agreement during the holy month of Ramzan.”

About the unanimous proposal of the All Party meeting for ceasefire with the militants, Khanna said “We don’t oppose the ceasefire but only want the other side to offer the same from their side.”

In reply to a question on ceasefire with militants, Khanna said if militants attack government forces is it possible that government forces will watch bullets from the other side targeting them.

“Obviously not. Ceasefire has to be from both the sides and let militants show restraint, government would reciprocate.”

Earlier, the BJP had said that such a ceasefire would go against the ‘national interest and could wash away the Army’s efforts’ in the state.
