Shutdown in Kulgam against civilian killing by army, Pulwama shuts against night raids

Srinagar: Mourning the death of Ajaz Ahmad Bhat of Akhran-Nowpora, commercial establishments and shops stayed closed in Kulgam. A complete shutdown was observed and traffic movement on the roads was minimum.

In another incident, armed forces detained 14 youth hailing from different areas of Pulwama.

Ajaz was killed by army firing the previous evening at 7 leading to a complete shutdown being observed today in Kulgam. Locals told Greater Kashmir  that soldiers from the 9 Rashtriya Rifles battalion exited their vehicles and snatched the phones of passers-by.

In Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir police, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force’s joint forces detained 14 youth on suspicion of involvement of stone pelting incidents and grenade attacks, SP Pulwama, Mohammad Aslam Choudhary said.

The arrests have led to a shutdown in the district.
