Malik was arrested from his Maisuma residence after Fajr prayers and lodged in police station, Maisuma.

Earlier, Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) consisting of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for a complete shutdown across Kashmir on July 8 to commemorate Wani’s second death anniversary. The leadership had also called for holding a general public rally in Tral.

JRL had also asked religious clerics to hold Fateh Khawni on July 6 to commemorate Wani’s anniversary and that of civilians, who were killed during the 2016 protests across Kashmir valley.
