Locals stop non-locals from hoisting tricolor in Lal Chowk, taken into custody

Srinagar: Locals stopped a few non-locals from hoisting the tricolor in Lal Chowk, which led to panic. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that some non-locals (right-wing activists) tried to hoist a tricolor at Lal Chowk, Srinagar, after which locals came out and snatched the flag.

The locals later staged a demonstration and shouted pro-freedom and Anti-India slogans. Sub Inspector of Maisuma, told Free Press Kashmir that the police present on the spot intervened and took the non-locals into custody.

On Monday, the state police had said that it will ensure peaceful and fearless celebrations of the day in Jammu and Kashmir. “We will ensure that people will celebrate Independence day peacefully and without any fear,” DGP Vaid had said.
