Chairman of the Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest on Friday to prevent him from leading any protest march against the civilian killing during a cordon and search operation in Srinagar on Thursday.
A heavy contingent of the police arrived at Nigeen residence of the Mirwaiz and placed him under house arrest, said a spokesman.

Mirwaiz was planning to lead a rally from Jama Masjid to Noorbagh after Friday prayers against the killing of Saleem Malik during a cordon-and-search-operation yesterday, he said.
Earlier, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Yasin Malik was arrested Friday to prevent him from protesting against the killing of a Saleem Malik, who was killed by the armed forces during a search operation in Noorbagh.
Joint Resistance Leadership has called for shutdown and protests today against the killing of Saleem Malik.
