Kashmir Municipal polls: Congress wins 20 out of 25 Anantnag wards, Sajad Lone’s PC wins all 13 Handwara wards

Srinagar: Sajad Lone led Peoples Conference has swept the Handwara municipal committee elections winning all the 13 wards, whereas the Congress has been declared successful at 20 wards of Anantnag municipal council as counting ended this morning.

Officials said that all the PC candidates were declared on Saturday after the counting for the polls began at 8 am today. The voting for the MC concluded on 13 October.

Out of total 25 wards, Congress won 20, said an official. 240 votes were cast in 16 wards of the council while the rest wards saw no contest.

For the Srinagar municipal corporation, the counting is being held at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar and for the Jammu municipal corporation it is being held at the Polytechnic Institute near Bikram Chowk.

For other districts of the state, counting is being held at the respective district headquarters.

Tight security arrangements have been made all across the state.
