Top Lashkar commander Abu Maaz among two killed in Sopore gunfight, say cops

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police has said that one among the two militants killed in a gunfight in Sopore was Abu Maaz, a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander.

Quoting SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal, news agency GNS reported that the slain duo has been identified as Abu Maaz and his close associate Ali Bhai alias Zubair of LeT.

The cops said that Abu Maaz was involved in a number of attacks in Sopore including the killing of Tawseef Ahmad Ganie (shopkeeper) as well as a number of SPOs.

They said that Maaz was the top commander of the outfit and was active since three years in Sopore. “He was instrumental in recruiting youth into militancy, “the SSP said and termed the killing as “major achievement” for the armed forces.

The slain militant commander carried a reward on his head, the officer said.
