Joint Resistance holds protest in Lal Chowk against human rights violations in Kashmir

Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led a peaceful protest in the capital city of Srinagar to protest against human rights violations by the Indian Armed Forces in Kashmir.

The protest led by Sheikh Abdul Rashid of Maisuma after Friday prayers, was joined by scores of activists and locals. The protestors could be heard chanting, “Stop Human Rights Violations in Kashmir”.

“Houses are being razed to the ground, our youth are being killed and we protest against this,” Rashid said.

“The Indian forces should come back to their senses. The recent killings by these forces are such that even the dead bodies can’t be identified,” he said.

He alleged that the forces has outraged the modesty of women in South Kashmir, and appealed to human rights watchdog Amnesty International to look into the human rights violations in the region. He requested them to keep a tight watch on the country’s actions in the region.

He questioned how the nine lakh Indian army contingent could easily uproot civilians’ residence without any accountability, whatsoever.

“Instead of killing us then and now, all of us will come into the streets and die together to stop these atrocities from taking place,” he proclaimed.
