Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath on Friday, while speaking at an event organised by a media group in New Delhi, called the killing of a police inspector in Bulandshahr by a mob over alleged cow violence  as “an accident” and said no incident of mob-lynching had taken place in the state, Dainik Jagran reported.

“There is no incident of mob-lynching in Uttar Pradesh,” he said, responding to a question on the steps taken by the state government to control mob violence. “The Bulandshahr incident is an accident and the law is taking its course. No guilty will be spared.”

On December 3, the police inspector, Subodh Kumar Singh, was killed after residents of Mahaw village of the district allegedly discovered the carcasses of a cow and a calf in a field and started getting violent.

Police on Friday arrested five more persons in connection with the violence along with four people – identified as Chaman, Devendra, Ashish Chauhan and Satish – for Singh’s murder.

Inspector General (Crime) SK Bhagat said the five arrested were identified as Chandra, Rohit, Sonu, Nitin and Jitendra, PTI reported.

He said their names were not mentioned in the First Information Report lodged in connection with the police officer’s murder. The five were arrested on the basis of video footage and eyewitness accounts, and police teams were carrying out raids to make more arrests, he added.
