Srinagar: Hours after the photograph of a 3-year-old boy whose grandfather was killed in a shoot-out in Sopore, was shared by the Police, Amnesty India has said that the Kashmir Police is responsible for violating Article 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
Amnesty is a global a human rights organisation with a mission to prevent and stop grave violations of human rights.
In a tweet, Amnesty India said that; “by disclosing the identity of a minor witness of a crime, Kashmir Zone Police stands in violation of Article 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.”

Article 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act prohibits making public the identity of victims of crime, or witness of a crime scene, in case it is a minor.
Earlier in a day, the heartbreaking picture of a 3 year old child sitting on the motionless dead-body of his grandfather who was killed when he suffered bullet injuries in a shoot-out, was shared by the police.
The Armed Forces have said that a patrolling party in Model Town area of Sopore was attacked by militants, in which the Bashir Ahmed was killed.
Bashir was travelling with his 3-year-old grandson.
The boy was numb with fear when he was picked up by policemen. A short video shows the boy sobbing inside a police van as biscuits and chocolates are offered to him by the police personnel.
The family members of, Bashir Ahmed, have claimed that their kin was killed after being dragged out of the vehicle by the armed forces.
However, police have strongly refuted allegations of the family. “I want to ask them if they were present at the site of incident. Did they see who fired,” Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Vijay Kumar, said earlier while briefing a press gathering in Srinagar.
