India crosses 8 lakh mark in COVID cases

Srinagar: With the highest single-day spike of 26,506 fresh coronavirus cases in the country, India has crossed the mark of eight lakh cases, in the last 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of positive cases stand at 8,02,229 including 2,76,685 active cases, 4,95,513 cured/discharged/migrated and 21,604 deaths.

The ministry has recommended the use of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in mild and moderate cases and should be avoided in patients with severe diseases.

According to the ministry, Maharashtra reported the highest number of cases at 2,30,599 followed by Tamil Nadu at 1,26,581, Delhi at 1,07,051, Gujarat at 39,194, Uttar Pradesh at 32,362, Karnataka at 31,105,Telangana at 30,946.

In West Bengal, the number of COVID-19 cases has gone up to 25,911, Andhra Pradesh witnesses 23,814, Haryana 19,369, Madhya Pradesh 16,341 and Rajasthan sees 22,563 cases.

The cases reported in Arunachal Pradesh are 302, 197 cases in Mizoram, 151 cases were witnessed in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 113 in Meghalaya and Sikkim has registered 134 infections so far.

The cases in Jammu and Kashmir have risen to 9,501, 14,032 in Assam, 13,944 in Bihar, 11,201 in Odisha 7,140 in Punjab and 6,534 cases in Kerala.

In Chhattisgarh, a total number of cases are 3,675 Uttarakhand reports 3,305, Jharkhand 3,246, Goa 2,151, Tripura 1,776, Manipur 1,450, Himachal Pradesh, 1,140 and Ladakh reports 1,055.

1,151 cases were reported in Puducherry, 673 in Nagaland, 523 in Chandigarh and Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu together have reported 411 cases.
