Three JK artisans awarded at IHGF-Delhi fair 2020

Srinagar: Three artisans from Jammu and Kashmir were awarded the Ajay Shankar Memorial awards, during the closing ceremony of 49th edition of IHGF-Delhi fair held on a virtual platform for the best virtual booth.

The six days of 49th edition of IHGF-Delhi fair virtual, began on July 13, and ended on July 19, 2020.

In a press statement, the President of the fair Neeraj Khanna said that the awardees from J&K include Saqib Ahmed from Chinar Valley Arts, who received a gold award, Ali Mohammad Shaksaz from Ramzan and Sons received a silver award and Ashaq Shah of Venoos Furniture fetched the bronze ward.

Apart from entrepreneurs, the Handicrafts and Handloom Department, of J&K was also awarded a certificate for being the associated organization for motivating the entrepreneurs to participate in the 49th edition of IHGF-Delhi fair virtual.

For this, Mussarat-Ul-Islam, Director, Department, J&K received the award and offered his vote of thanks to Export promotion Council of handicrafts for giving the opportunity to the exporters, entrepreneurs to recognize the efforts of the erstwhile state towards the promotion of handicrafts.

Speaking on the matter, Arshad Mir, Member COA EPCH said, “the product range of traditional crafts and textiles of J&K with modern designs made out of eco-friendly and natural materials with rich craftsmanship are in great demand in India and overseas and the entrepreneurs and artisans were highly benefitted through this virtual fair.”

The statement by IHGF added that participation of 40 entrepreneurs in the fair was possible with the efforts of J&K’s Handicrafts and Handloom Department and office of Development Commissioner- Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, GoI and JK Khadi Village Industries Board.

“EPCH is working in close coordination with these departments for the upliftment of artisans and exports of crafts from J&K,” President Khanna said.

In order to provide exposure to crafts of Jammu and Kashmir, a thematic display was set up during 49th edition of IHGF-Delhi fair with showcasing of products by 40 artisans and entrepreneurs, the spokesman said, adding products include home furnishing, textiles, carpets, papier-mâché, fashion accessories and wooden handicrafts were exhibited.

IHGF is amongst Asia’s largest gifts and handicrafts fair, held biannually (Spring and Autumn edition), organized by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).

EPCH, India’s premier export promotion organization with 10,000 member exporters is engaged in trade promotion of handicrafts exports from India.
