4 BJP workers who met Lieutenant Governor Murmu test positive for COVID

Kupwara: At least four BJP workers part of delegation that met Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu during his Kupwara visit on July 18 have tested COVID positive, official sources said.

LG Murmu had visited district Kupwara to take stock of the developmental activities there. Four BJP workers who also met LG Murmu have been tested positive for COVID.

As the news about these workers broke, District Development Commissioner’s office was fumigated and the employees who managed the affairs during LG’s visit have been quarantined.

Chief Medical Officer, Kupwara, Dr Kounsar said, “we are trying to identify all the contacts of these BJP workers and they will be quarantined and tested.”

District Development Commissioner Kupwara, Ansul Garg said that while meeting LG, members in the delegation had maintained physical distancing norms.

“We had taken all the precautionary measures but yet, the contacts of these infected people including security personnel have been traced and even some employees have been quarantined,” Garg said, adding that DC office Kupwara has already been fumigated.

On July 14, BJP Party chief for Jammu and Kashmir, Ravinder Raina was found positive for the novel coronavirus, following which he was shifted to Narayana hospital in Katra for the treatment.

“Hello Friends, I was in Kashmir/Bandipura for 5 days after the assassination of BJP leaders Mr. Wasim Bari, Mr. Omar Sultan and his father in Bandipura by terrorists, today I had a mild fever, got the test done, COVID-19 + in the report Has come, No other Symptoms .. Jai Mata Di,” the BJP leader wrote on his twitter handle.

Raina accompanied by the Union Minister in PMO Jitendra Singh, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav, the party’s national Vice President Avainash Rai Khanna, had to visit the residence of slain BJP leader Sheikh Waseem Bari, to pay condolences to his family. Bari, his brother and father were killed in a militant attack.

Besides party members, many people including the family, relatives and neighbours of the slain BJP leader were present on the occasion, when the leaders were holding a condolence meet.

A day later, when the state government of Bihar decided to implement a complete lockdown, at least 75 BJP leaders and staff members at the party headquarters, were found coronavirus positive.
