COVID claims 11 more lives in JK, toll reaches 266

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday reported eleven more deaths attributed to COVID, taking the fatality count due to the virus to 266.

Official sources said that five deaths occurred at SKIMS, four at SMHS hospital while one each was reported from SKIMS Bemina and CD hospital.

The fatalities include a 96-year-old man from Pattan Baramulla, a 70-year-old woman from Lalbazar Srinagar, 50-year-old from Mirbazar Kulgam, elderly from Parraypora Srinagar, a 54-years-old man from Fateh kadal Srinagar, a 64-years-old woman from Dangerpora Sopore , a 55-year-old woman from Budgam, 65-year-old from Sangrama, 85-year-old from Sopore, a 74-year-old man from Rawalpora, a 43-year-old man from Parigam and 85-year-old man from Papcha area of Bandipora.

With these deaths, 246 people in Kashmir and 20 in Jammu have died so far due to the COVID.

On Tuesday, J&K recorded 608 positive cases, taking the overall tally to 15,258, officials said. The erstwhile state has crossed the 15,000 mark in 145 days.

Of the new positive cases, 502 are from Kashmir and 106 from Jammu division. Among these, 87 patients have a travel history to affected regions.

Besides this, authorities said that they have evacuated 2,46,634 JK residents, stranded in other parts of the country due to COVID lockdown, via Lakhanpur and through special trains and buses till date amid strict observance of all necessary guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.

As per the official data received in this regard, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has received 90 special trains at Jammu and Udhampur railway stations from different states and UTs, so far, with about 75,448 passengers while about 1,71,186 persons from other states and UTs including 899 from abroad have been evacuated through Lakhanpur till date.

As per the figures, about 2268 stranded passengers have entered through Lakhanpur from July 20 to July 21 mornings while 907 passengers have reached today in the 69th Delhi COVID special train at Jammu.

So far, 69 trains have reached Jammu with a total of 59,752 stranded passengers belonging to different districts while 15,696 passengers have reached Udhampur in 21 special trains, so far.

Besides evacuation, the administration said that they have collected 10,581 samples of labourers arriving at Qazigund toll post from July 14 to 18.

On Tuesday, as many as 113 non-local labourers, who arrived in Kashmir in the last week, have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.

As per the official data, the samples are being collected from the labourers who are arriving at Jammu and Kashmir from several other states and UTs.

According to the figures, a total of 1012 samples were collected on July 14, of which, only six samples were tested positive while results for remaining 9569 of the total 10581 samples collected are awaited.

Officials said that a total of 1012 samples were collected from the arriving labourers at Toll Post Qazigund on July 14, 2227 tests were collected on July 15, 2099, on July 16, 2350 on July 17 and 2893 samples were collected on July 18 for coronavirus testing.
