‘Bees lakh ka aankra paar, Gayab hai Modi sarkaar’, says Rahul Gandhi as India crosses 2-million COVID infections

Srinagar: On Friday morning, as India reported more than 2-million COVID cases (20, 25,409), former Indian National Congress chief Rahul Gandhi shared an old tweet from his timeline, hinting that he was right in predicting that India would cross the 2-million mark before August 10, 2020.

“Bees lakh ka aankra paar… Gayab hai Modi sarkaar (20-lakh mark has been crossed, Modi government is missing),” a Delhi based news organisation NDTV mentioned the tweet shared by Rahul Gandhi.

“The 10,00,000-mark has been crossed. If COVID-19 continues to spread at this pace, we will soon cross the 20,00,000-lakh mark by August 10. The government should take prudent steps to tackle the pandemic,” his post in Hindi on July 17 read.

Days before, he had said on Twitter that India would pass 10 lakh-mark in a week.

With the worst ever spike of 62,538 COVID cases in a single day, India’s tally of total virus infections has crossed the 2-million mark (20,25,409) and the death toll has mounted to 41,627.

According to the Health Ministry of India, Maharashtra has recorded its highest single-day spike of 11,514 coronavirus cases. Its tally now stands at 4,79,779. The cases in Andhra Pradesh are closer to the 2,00,000 mark, with over 10,000 fresh infections on the second consecutive day.

In south India’s Karnataka state, a spike of 6,805 coronavirus cases and 93 related fatalities, have mounted the infection count in the state to 1.58 lakh.

On Thursday, 5,602 patients from Karnataka were discharged after recovery. Out of the fresh cases reported, 2,544 were from Bangalore alone.

According to the Gujarat Health Department, with 1,034 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, the state’s tally crossed the 67,000-mark on Thursday, while 27 more patients succumbed to the infection.

Worldwide there were 2,71,577 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours.

As many as 19,237,339 people around the world have been diagnosed with the infection so far. While more than 1,23,45,472 have recovered, 7,16,519 have died.
