Srinagar: In the span of one month, suspected militants have shot dead five BJP workers including three of a family here in Kashmir Valley.

These attacks have created ripples among BJP workers who are demanding security. BJP Spokesperson Altaf Thakur has also demanded ‘safe accommodation’ in every district headquarters for BJP workers.

Last month on July 8 suspected militants shot dead Bandipora face of BJP Waseem Bari, his brother Umar Sheikh and father Bashir Sheikh.

A month later on August 9 militants gunned down BJP worker Hamid Jamal Najar in Ompara Budgam, according to Police.

After the attack, five party workers of the same district, have announced their resignation citing ‘personal reasons’.

On August 6 sarpanch Sajjad Khanday was killed in South Kashmir’s Qazigund area outside his residence.

After suspected militants killed Khanday, several BJP members and political workers resigned from the party fearing reprisal from militants for being in affiliation with the political party.

Another BJP panch Arif Ahmad Shah was also fatally wounded in the attack by militants, as per the police, in Kulgam district in the first week of this month.
