Amid peace talks, India rejects Chinese suggestion to ‘equidistantly disengage’ from Finger 4 in Ladakh

Amid the efforts between India and China to resolve the ongoing border dispute in Ladakh, India has completely rejected the Chinese suggestion to disengage its presence equidistantly from Finger 4 area in Ladakh.

According to a report published by a Delhi based news organisation Zee News, the PLA troops in April this year violated the LAC rules on the pretext of conducting military exercises and engaged in the construction of infrastructure in many places.

Apart from troops, tanks, aircraft, and other weapons were also deployed in the area. India also accuses China of violating the 1993-1996 agreement between the two countries prohibiting the construction of any kind in the area.

Presently, the Chinese are around the Finger 5 near the Pangong Lake and have deployed a large number of troops and equipment at the five-kilometre stretch – Finger 5 to Finger 8, beyond which the Chinese bases existed before the April-May timeframe.

“The Chinese side had made a suggestion that both India and China should go back equidistantly from the Finger 4 Area. The suggestion is not acceptable to the Indian side,” the report quoted sources as having said.

The report added that Indian side at the site is clear and Chinese troops should disengage completely from the Finger area and move back to their original location.

Concurrently, the Intelligence Agencies testify that China has no inclination towards evacuating the region and is only pretending to be in the conversation to strengthen its military hold on the area in the meantime.

Meanwhile, the personnel of the Indian Army and Airforce have also strengthened its military hold. The armed forces personnel have reportedly been instructed to be vigilant and sharp-eyed at all times in order to decorously face any move made by the Chinese.

Earlier, Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh scrutinised the overall security scenario in Eastern Ladakh.

The meeting with the Singh was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, Army Chief Gen MM Naravane, Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh and Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria and it was overall aspects of the dispute were discussed.

The report quoting an intelligence statement said that China has increased its surveillance on the central sector of the Indian Army on Thursday.

China, according to a report, has upgraded its surveillance system on the other side of Tun-Jun-La near Barahoti in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.
