Srinagar: In Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district, a three year old girl was raped and subsequently strangled to death, reports revealed as her body was found about half a kilometre away from her home on Thursday.
The incident occurred 24 hours after the minor girl went missing from her home in Kheri. With this case, Uttar Pradesh has reported three such cases in less than three weeks.
In this regard, as police had taken up the case, called it a murder first, but the autopsy reports confirmed sexual assault, a report by Delhi based news organisation NDTV said.
The child’s father had accused another villager, Lekhram, in his complaint to the police. He had alleged that his daughter was kidnapped and killed in an old rivalry.
The police have formed four teams to look for the accused man, the report mentioned quoting Kheri’s police chief.
The incidents have sparked public outrage with the Congress and the Samajwadi Party attacking the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government over worsening law and order situation.
Expressing concern over the back to back incidents, the state Congress Chief Ajay Kumar Lalu took to twitter and wrote: “Even after so many incidents our ‘tough’ Chief Minister has not fixed responsibility. A dying system and a helpless Chief Minister.”
Earlier, in state’s Gorakhpur district, a teenage girl was allegedly raped by two men in August and her body was singed with cigarette butts in eastern region.
In another rape incident, a 13 year old girl was gang raped and murdered in the same district and her body was found in the sugarcane field owned by one of the rape accused.
