3 militants, woman killed in gunfight in Batmaloo Srinagar, armed forces personnel injured

Srinagar: Three militants and a woman were killed in a gunfight between armed forces personnel and militants in Batmaloo area of Srinagar.

Official sources said that three militants were killed in Batmaloo gunfight. “The firing has stopped and searches are underway in the area,” he said.

They said that a woman aged 45-years was also killed in the gunfight after she received bullet injuries and a Deputy commandant of 117 Bn of CRPF identified as Rahul Kumar suffered injuries. Kumar was soon evacuated to 92 Base hospital for treatment.

They identified the slain woman as Kousar Jan of Batmaloo stating that she was taken to SMHS hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

The slain militants have been identified as Zakir Ahmed Paul, son of Nisar Ahmed Paul, a resident of Aloora Imam Sahib, district Shopian. Paul was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and joined the militancy on June 4, 2020, Ubair Mushtaq Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Badragund, Kulgam. Bhat was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen and joined the outfit on June 14, 2020, and Adil Hussain Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat, a resident of Batapora, Chersoo, Awantipora. The slain militant was affiliated with Al-Badr and had joined the militancy on August 18, 2020.

Earlier, an official said that on specific inputs about the presence of militants, a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Batmaloo during last night.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering a gunfight, the official added.
