Armed forces personnel from China posted at Finger 4 along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, on Thursday played Punjabi songs on loudspeakers to “distract” Indian armed forces personnel, a Delhi based news organisation India Today reported.

Quoting sources, news agency ANI reported that China’s “loudspeakers move” is under constant watch by Indian armed forces personnel and the idea behind this could be a possible “distraction or relieve the pressure.”

Several Indian media reports have already termed the move as a “psychological warfare tactic.”

A day before this event, Beijing on Wednesday said it has been “honouring” agreements signed with New Delhi, adding it is committed to “peace and stability” in the border region.

“For the Chinese side, we have been honouring the agreements signed between China and India. We are committed to peace and stability in the border area. Meanwhile, we are committed to our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin had said.

“By playing loud music, the Chinese are not only trying to distract Indian troops but are also trying to show that they understanding all their moves,” the report mentioned.

“A majority of all Indian armed forces personnel converse in Hindi and Punjabi. It is possible that Chinese soldiers may have overheard Indian troops humming songs in Hindi or Punjabi in the past and are trying to show Indian troops that they are not under worried about recent developments,” the report said.

“Just before the 1962 war, the Chinese army played Bollywood/Hindi songs as an intimidation tactic and also to demonstrate that they knew the Indian language,” it further added.

India-China has been engaged in a stand-off since April-May this year and has led to clashes many times, resulting in the killing of 20 armed forces personnel from India Galwan Valley.
