‘Discount only for industrial, commercial consumers’: Rohit Kansal

The comments came hours after Lt Guv JK announces 50% concession in electricity, water bills

Srinagar: Hours after Jammu and Kashmir administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced a fifty per cent concession for electricity and water bills on Saturday, Rohit Kansal, Principal Secretary of Power Development and official spokesperson of JK administration clarified that the discount package is “only for industrial and commercial consumers and not for electricity bills.”

“The 50% discount on electricity and water charges announced in today’s package is 50% discount on fixed demand charges for Industrial and Commercial consumers. This is NOT a discount on Electricity Bills” Kansal tweeted.

Earlier, Governor Sinha made the announcement saying that JK administration has decided to discount the electricity and water bills by fifty per cent for one year, which as per the administration head, “will cost around 105 crores to the state exchequer.”

“It will be applicable to all the customers including farmer, business, trade and industry class”, Sinha said.

In the past, they had also said that the government was mulling a “structured package” for transporters, drivers, auto-drivers, houseboat owners and Shikara wallas.
