India reports 88,600 COVID cases in 24 hours, tally nears 60 lakh

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 88,600 new coronavirus cases thus taking its tally near to 60-lakh mark. The country also reported 1,124 fresh deaths in the past 24 hours.

According to the Health Ministry of India, 92,043 people have fought off the disease in the last 24 hours and the number of one-day recoveries remained higher than new infections.

The total coronavirus recoveries in India are now 49.41 lakh. The country has 9.56 lakh active cases, and 94,503 people have lost their lives to COVID until now. Around 9.87 lakh COVID tests were also conducted in the past 24 hours.

With 59,92,532 total cases, India is the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic, second only to the United States which has more than 72 lakh cases. Worldwide coronavirus infections have soared past 3.3 crores.
