Militant captured alive in military operation in central Kashmir’s Budgam, says army, ‘deserter SPO’ escapes

‘Deserter’ SPO escapes, say officials 

Budgam: A militant was apprehended during a military operation against militants in Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday.

Official sources said that one militant was caught alive during the military operation in Chadoora along with an AK-47 rifle.

They said that the militant identified as Jahangir Ahmad Bhat, son of late Noor Mohummad Bhat, a resident of Chadoora Budgam was an associate of ‘deserter’ SPO who recently fled from the SOG camp in Chadoora with 2 AK-47 rifles.

Officials added that ex-SPO identified as Altaf Hassan managed to escape during the operation.

Meanwhile, the army in a tweet said: “Op Chadoora, Budgam. During the search at a joint Mobile Vehicle Check Post at Chadoora, today morning, a terrorist fired at the SF. Area was cordoned. Extensive search was carried out & the terrorist was apprehended with one AK. Joint op concluded.”

The operation began this morning after a joint team of Police, Army’s 53 RR and 181 CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Chadoora.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering the operation, officials said.
