COVID: No closure of colleges in JK for now, says Admin

Srinagar: Amid rumours regarding the closure of colleges following the surge in COVID cases, the administration on Thursday said that the higher education institutes in Jammu and Kashmir will function normally through regular mode.

Top officials of the Higher Education Department told Kashmir News Observer that the students must not pay heed to the rumours regarding the closure of colleges.

The official said, “In Jammu and Kashmir, colleges are functioning normally even the management of the all colleges are ensuring adherence of COVID Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).”

“There is no such proposal of closing the colleges here and the Higher Education Department is constantly monitoring the COVID cases among the students and the staff members,” the official said.

It is pertinent to mention that on March-15, at least three students of Women’s College Srinagar were tested positive for COVID and on March-07, authorities ordered the closure of Islamia College of Science and Commerce till March-13 following the outbreak of COVID among its two faculty members.

The colleges in Kashmir opened academic activities on February-15 after a gap of nearly eleven months.
