Shopian Military Op: Three Al-Badr militants killed, search operation on

Srinagar: Three militants affiliated with Al-Badr outfit were killed while the fourth militant surrendered during a military operation at Kenigam area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.

The operation had ensued after a team of police and army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles was fired upon during a cordon-and-search operation launched in the area amid specific information about the presence of the militants.

“Three militants have been killed in the gunfight. However identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained,” a police officer said.

“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: 03 #terrorists killed. Search going on. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

Earlier, police said that newly recruited militants were asked to surrender, however, they refused the offer and lobbed a grenade and firing towards the joint team of armed forces.

In the middle of the operation, one among four militants namely Tawseef Ahmad surrendered, police said earlier.
