Srinagar: Authorities on Sunday denied the permission for the youth convention of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the fair view Gupkar residence and has put PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti under house detention in Kashmir capital Srinagar.
Executive Magistrate First Class South Srinagar in an official communication has ordered that “In view of the report received by the office of Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar and COVID-19 restrictions in place. It is hereby ordered that the scheduled youth convention that is to be held today by the PDP at Gupkar is hereby not allowed.”
The magistrate further communicated, “As such station House officer Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh is hereby directed to ensure that no such event takes place at Gupkar without permission of the competent authority”.
A senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party said that Mehbooba Mufti has been placed under house detention in view of the Youth Convention.
He said, “We have not received any official communication from the administration regarding permission for ‘not allowed’ so far, however, he asked the administration, “Is COVID only for PDP? and not for the other political parties who are holding rallies across Kashmir”.
“This speaks volumes about the government and their ironies regarding the protocols,” he said. (KDC)
