Military operation against militants starts in Srinagar, says police

Srinagar: More than an hour after Inspector General of Police claimed to have killed a militant in Shalimar area of Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir police said that another military operation against militants has started in Gasu area of Shalimar.

The military operation, according to police, started more than an hour after police claimed that it killed a militant associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit in Shalimar.

Another military operation has started in Gasu area of Shalimar, police said, adding, personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force are conducting the operation.

Earlier, IGP Vijay Kumar said that a top commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit identified as Muhammad Saleem Parray was killed in the operation.

The police officer termed the slain Parray’s killing a “big success” for the armed forces.
