Srinagar: Amid predictions for scattered light rain/snow and thundershowers in the next 24 hours, night temperature increased at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
A meteorological department official said that Srinagar, the summer capital of JK, recorded a low of 7.2°C against last night’s 6.9°C. The temperature was 2.2°C above normal for Srinagar during this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a low of 5.4°C against 6.0°C on the previous night. The temperature was above normal by 1.7°C for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 7.2°C, the same as on the previous night. It was 3.9°C more than normal during this time of the season, the official said.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 1.9°C against 1.4°C last night. The temperature was 1.5°C above normal for the place, he said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 2.5°C against 2.6°C on the previous night, the official said. While minus 1.6°C is normal for the world-famous skiing resort during this time of the season, the official said that the temperature was 4.1°C above normal for the place in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 5.1°C, the same as the previous night. The temperature was 1.9°C more than normal.
Jammu recorded a low of 17.6°C against 16.7°C on the previous night, the official said. The temperature was 2.1°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital during this time of the year, he said.
Banihal recorded a low of 7.8°C, Batote had a minimum of 11.1°C while Bhaderwah recorded a low of 9.3°C.
Ladakh’s Leh recorded a minimum of 0.4°C against 0.0°C the previous night while the automatic Kargil station recorded a low of 2.4°C.
The weatherman has forecast hot and dry weather during this week barring March 23 and 24 when there is the possibility of a brief spell of light to moderate rains.
“Except for 23-24th, the weather will remain hot and dry this week,” the official said, adding, “On 23-24th, a brief spell of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely at scattered places.” However, he said there’s no forecast of any major rain or snow till the end of March.
