Bareilly: Two people have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly for playing Pakistani songs on their mobile phones. An FIR was registered on Wednesday against Naeem and Mustkim of Singhai Murawan village in the district’s Bhuta area.

The incident was reported in Singhai Kalan village under Bhuta police station. A video of the same was later shared on Internet in which a shopkeeper can be seen listening to the songs.

Later on, locals and some BJP members protested against the shopkeeper for listening to the music.

Police said that a case has been registered and the duo is being interrogated. “Pakistan Zindabad song was being played at a shop in a village under Bhuta police station. Appropriate action will be taken against the culprits,” said Rajkumar Agarwal, SP, Bareilly (Rural).

Meanwhile, the mother of one of the two arrestees has said that their family was unaware of the incident.

“We didn’t know what exactly happened. My younger son played religious songs on his mobile phone. He didn’t know there were any such slogans available in the phone. We never played such songs in mobile phone. He is uneducated. I request police to please release him,” reports said quoting Shahana, the arrestee shopkeeper’s mother, as saying.

However, this is not the first time people were arrested for listening to Pakistani music. Last year, three men were arrested from UP’s Noida for the same.
