Kashmir to witness more power crisis, officials say ‘no availability of electricity at present’

‘Nothing can be stated about how long the situation continues’

Srinagar: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has claimed that the previous year’s electricity demand in July at ‘national level’ has already crossed in wake of the increasing demand this year due to the early summer.

The corporation has said that the power scenario is unlikely to improve and also that nothing can be stated at present.

Chief Engineer, KPDCL said that last year’s record in July of two lakh megawatts at national level has already crossed yesterday due to the early arrival of summer this year.

“The demand and supply gap is the outcome of the present power scenario.

There is no availability of electricity at present. Nothing can be stated about how long the situation continues,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Government of India has allocated additional power of 207 MegaWatts to the Union Territory.

The government of India has allocated 207MW additional power to Jammu and Kashmir in an order to meet the increasing electricity demand.

Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor and PDD, Nitishwar Kumar said that the order issued by the GoI ministry of Power will substantially increase the availability of power in JK.
