Two army officers killed, several others injured in grenade blast in Poonch

Poonch: Army on Monday said a captain and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were killed in an accidental grenade blast along the Line of Control in Mendhar sector in Poonch district.

In a statement, the army said, “Last night, an accidental grenade blast occurred in Mendhar Sector, district Poonch when troops were performing their duties along the Line of Control.”

The Grenade blast resulted in injuries to forces personnel who were immediately evacuated by helicopter to Command Hospital Udhampur, the statement said.

It added, “during the treatment, Capt Anand and Nb Sub Bhagwan Singh succumbed to their injuries”.

Captain Anand belongs to KN Jha Lane, PO – Champa Nagar, District – Bhagalpur (Bihar) and Nb Sub Bhagwan Singh belongs to Village- Pokhar Bhitta, District- Ambedkar Nagar (UP), the statement added.
