Three LeT militant associates arrested in Sopore: Police

Srinagar: Police claimed to have arrested three militant associates of the outfit Lashkar-i-Taiba along with arms and ammunition in north Kashmir’s Sopore on Friday.

In a statement, police said, “During evening hours, a joint naka/MVCP was established by Sopore police, 22 RR, 179 BN CRPF at Bomai chowk in the jurisdiction of police station Bomai. During checking a suspicious movement of three persons coming from Goripura towards Bomai was noted and were subsequently asked to stop, but they tried to flee from the spot, however, were tactfully apprehended by the armed forces. Upon their personal search hand grenades, 09 posters, and 12 Pakistani flags were recovered from their possession”.

The statement added that the police spokesman further stated that during the preliminary questioning, they revealed their identity as Shariq Ashraf, son of Mohammad Ashraf Wani, a resident of Hadipora Rafiabad, Saqlain Mushtaq son of  Mushtaq Ahmed War, a resident of Warpora Sopore and Tawfeeq Hassan Sheikh son of Ghulam Hassan sheikh a resident of Fatehgarh Baramulla.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested persons are OGWs of organisation LeT and were in constant search of an opportunity to carry out attacks on armed forces and civilians including outside labourers, they said.

Accordingly, a case has been registered at police station Bomai under relevant sections of law and further investigation is still going on, reads the statement.
