New Delhi: Actor Diljit Dosanjh corrected the host Rajeev Masand for calling the 1984 massacre of Sikhs in India as “riots”.

In a recent interview with the Journalist Rajeev Masand, actor Diljit Dosanjh correcting the host Rajeev Masand for calling the attack on Sikhs in India during the 1980s as riots.

In a viral video, the actor, along with many other actors, can be talking with the host about his 2022 release Jogi, which was set during the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre.

When opened up about the incident, the actor can be seen saying that it was not “riots”, but genocide of Sikhs. He went on to explain that events can be called riots when they are two communities involved, however, in 1984, one community was under attack.

As the clip went viral on social media sites, users lauded the actor for correcting the host.

However, this is not the first time Diljit has opened up about the 1984 massacre. While promoting Jogi, earlier this year, the actor told PTI, “We should not call it riots, the right word is genocide. When there is a two-sided fight between people, then it is a riot. According to me, it should be called genocide.”

Another report by IANS, quoted the actor saying, “I grew up listening to all these stories. I couldn’t believe it. But when we grew up, saw and read (stories) then I got to know that this happened deeply.”

As per Wikipedia, the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots, also known as the 1984 Sikh Massacre, was a series of organised pogroms against Sikhs in India following the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.

Government estimates project that about 2,800 Sikhs were killed in Delhi and 3,350 across India, whilst independent sources estimate the number of deaths at about 8,000-17,000
