Jammu: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Monday said that no government in the erstwhile state provided jobs to the militants and did not punish people who were relatives of the militants.
“Is it fair for me to punish you for the crime of your father,” Omar asked the gathering he was addressing to in Jammu.
“Tomorrow if a close relative of Manoj Sinha commits a crime, should Manoj Sinha go to jail?”, he asked.
Omar said he is not advocating that hardcore militants should be given government jobs but said it is also wrong to punish somebody just because they have the misfortune of being related to a militant.
Earlier, when politicians of Jammu and KAshmir questioned JK administration for hiring a balcklisted company for conducting JKSSB exams in the UT, Sinha sought to know “how the family members of militants got government jobs in the past”.
“Nearly 30,000 jobs have been provided to the youths in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two years. When selections came under question, it was probed by the country’s premier investigating agency. I want to assure people that no culprit involved in it will be spared,” Sinha claimed.
“There is also one more question hanging thick over government jobs. Those, raking this issue should ponder over how the family members of militants are in government services,” Sinha said.
“These people must remember that governance should be for the common man and not for the select few. We need to ask how families of militants were recruited in the government services earlier. How secessionists were given jobs earlier. Those responsible for such heinous acts must introspect before raising questions on transparent and merit-based recruitment happening now,” he added.
