Bandipora:  At least 70 sheep were lost in the flash floods that followed the morning rains at Wular Lake in the Bandipora region of north Kashmir on Monday, and several more are still missing.

The majority of the sheep were swept ashore in Lankreshipora hamlet by rapid floods following morning rainfall in Wular Lake, according to the residents and the shepherd of the herd. Locals claim that 150 sheep were washed up during the flooding that occurred Monday morning about 7:30 am. According to officials, 57 sheep have already been verified killed, and others are still missing.

Local witnesses said that the sheep were on a dry area of ground close to the Wular banks when the tragedy occurred. The shepherd, Ghulam Qadir, told reporters that catastrophic rapid lake floods had occurred, but that his 20-year-old son and his cousin had made it out alive by scaling trees. They had been there for three days, according to Qadir. A portion of the sheep also belonged to Qadir.

Meanwhile, the district administration of Bandipora issued an advisory for the general public to avoid moving around and taking livestock around water bodies.
