Poonch: People in the Surankote area of Poonch district have initiated a sit-in protest against the opening of a wine shop at Potha Bypass. They have also warned of hunger strike if authorities failed to shutdown the store.

Following Friday prayers, numerous elected representatives, political figures, religious leaders, social activists, youths, and the general public convened a meeting where they unanimously decided to commence a daily sit-in protest at Bus Stand Surankote from 10 am to 2 pm. Their demand is that the government shut down the wine shop in Potha.

Shahnawaz Choudhary, the DDC Member of Surankote-A, along with other individuals, expressed grave concerns and emphasized that the entire Surankote community has opposed to the establishment of the wine shop. They had previously staged a protest, but unfortunately, the government has not responded to their demands.

Choudhary and others issued a warning to the government, stating that if the wine shop is not closed promptly, the people will escalate their protest. They declared their intention to extend the sit-in protest from 4 hours to 24 hours and even consider hunger strikes as a further course of action.
