Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Friday quashed detention orders of Moulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi and Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri, who were booked under Public Safety Act.
The Court quashed the detention orders of both religious clerics who were booked under the PSA in 2022.
Both clerics have large following in the Kashmir Valley. While Dawoodi is the head of ‘Tehreek-e- Sout-ul Auliya’, Veeri is affiliated with Jamiat-Ahle-Hadees (JaH).
The duo was arrested on September 15, 2022, along with another cleric Moulana Abdul Majeed Dar Almadni.
Dawoodi’s close aid Fayaz Ahmed Rizvi had accompanied Tehreek-e-Sowtul Auliya head to the police station where Rizvi was told to leave and Dawoodi was detained.
Dawoodi who originally hails from Kulgam and delivers Friday prayers in Kabamarg, Anantnag, is also the founder of a seminary in Anantnag.
The family of the Moulana Veeri, who was booked under the Public Safety Act in 2019, too had received the call from police officials asking them to report at the police station.
