Man arrested for uploading videos, photos of militants killed recently in Kokernag: Police

Pulwama: A social media user from Pulwama district of south Kashmir was arrested on Thursday for allegedly uploading photos and videos of militants killed in recent military operation in Kokernag Anantnag.

“It has come to light that an individual was running a fake social media account with the name “Pulwama News” and was involved in uploading videos and pictures of militants killed in the Kokernag encounter. This account was created to promote the activities of the militants and spread fear among the general public, which posed a severe threat to the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country,” police said in a statement.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 98/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation was initiated.

During the course of investigation, the accused identified as Ashiq Ahmed Khan, son of Bashir Ahmed Khan, a resident of Niloora Khan Mohalla has been arrested for carrying out such unlawful activities. The investigation of the case is going on, the statement said.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the Police to nab the miscreants who are inimical to the peace and tranquillity. We stand together in the fight against militancy and will continue to work towards a peaceful, safe and prosperous future for all citizens,” added the statement.
