Srinagar: Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that religious leaders who were jailed under Public Safety Act by BJP earlier are being facilitated by the same part.

The PDP president said this in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, while sharing a picture of Waqf Board chief Darkshan Andrabi putting a shawl on the shoulders of Moulana Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri.

“Religious leaders now released & felicitated by BJP after being slapped with PSA were earlier accused of being a security threat by the ruling party. While they engage in dirty political games wonder what it will take to free other preachers accused of the same crime? Ishfaq Bukhari, Abdul Majid Dar, Manzoor Misbahi & Fayaz Shah continue to languish in jail,” Mehbooba posted on X.

On September 8, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court quashed detention orders of Moulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi and Moulana Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri, who were booked under Public Safety Act.

Both clerics have large following in the Kashmir Valley. While Dawoodi is the head of ‘Tehreek-e- Sout-ul Auliya’ and Veeri is affiliated with Jamiat-Ahle-Hadees.
