New Delhi has has witnessed incidents of thefts and damage to the items that were installed across various parts for beautification in light of the two-day G20 summit held at Pragati Maidan.
According to reports, police have received several complaints of missing flower pots, rubber nozzles, wires and broken lights in Delhi, especially in the New Delhi district area.
The G20 summit was held from September 7 to 10 with multiple agencies working round the clock to ensure a smooth experience for the 40 heads of state and several dignitaries.
As part of the beautification of Bharat Mandapam and Lutyens’ Delhi, the Public Works Department (PWD) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) installed statues, fountains, lights and other expensive equipment.
The Indian Express report quoting sources said that they found that several decorative pots, which were lined up at ITO and Rajghat have been stolen since the G20 summit, adding that “while a few pots were stolen, others were damaged or found lying flat with flowers and mud on the road.”
Quoting the officer, the report said they had received information that several lights near the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Sarai Kale Khan flyover have been damaged.
“We don’t know if this was intentional or accidental. Several pots have been removed by PWD authorities from the New Delhi-South Delhi stretch and from the Sarai Kale Khan-Noida stretch,” the officer was quoted as saying.
A few street lights and decorative lights have been stolen and/or damaged near Lodhi Road, Mathura Road and Ring Road.
