Don’t provide ration card details to unknown callers: Food Dept to consumers

Srinagar: The Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs in Kashmir has cautioned the public regarding fraudulent telephone calls targeting ration card holders during the ongoing e-KYC verification drive.

It has come to the notice of Department that taking undue advantage of ongoing drive undertaken by the Department, as per the instructions of Department of Food and Public distribution, GoI, to capture e-KYC credentials of ration card holders, some unscrupulous elements are trying to telephonically obtain some vital information from the rationees/ beneficiaries, citing attractive/ luring benefits.

It is understood that some innocent/ gullible beneficiaries may fall prey to such traps, causing them some financial or other losses, said the FCS&CA department in a statement.

“With a view to avert occurrence of any such incidence, General Public at large and the ration card holders in particular are informed through the medium of this notice to not pay any heed to such unverified telephonic calls and immediately report the same to the police.”

“The Department of FCS&CA J&K doesn’t seek any information from the rationees through telephonic calls and the beneficiaries have to approach their concerned Fair Price Dealers only for the ongoing e-KYC verification. The process of e-KYC verification doesn’t involve sharing of OTP/ Aadhar number by the ration card holder,” the department added.
