The potential escalation of casualties due to diseases rather than bombings in Gaza is a looming threat, warned a spokesperson from the World Health Organization (WHO), according to Reuters.

Margaret Harris of WHO emphasised the urgent need to restore Gaza’s health system to prevent a scenario where more lives are claimed by illnesses than by bombardments.

Expressing distress, she labeled the collapse of Al Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza as a “tragedy.”

Additionally, Harris voiced apprehension regarding the Israeli forces’ detention of certain medical staff from the hospital, adding a layer of concern to the already critical situation.

The spokesperson underscored the imperative nature of swiftly reconstructing the health infrastructure to avert a potential crisis where diseases become a greater peril than the direct impact of bombings.

This declaration comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, emphasizing the vital role of a functional health system in preserving lives and mitigating the broader humanitarian impact of the conflict.

The Israeli army arrested 60 more Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Prisoners Club said on Monday, bringing the total number of Palestinians detained since October 7 to 3,260.

During the same time, Israeli army has killed 14,854 Palestinians, including 6,150 children and over 4,000 women.
