Suspecting ‘possible terror attack’, Israel issues travel warning for its citizens in India

The Israeli National Security Council has issued a travel advisory for Israeli citizens in India, suspecting that the explosion near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi on Tuesday could be a ‘possible terror attack’, PTI reported.

No injuries were reported in the blast near the embassy in the Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave on Tuesday evening.

Israeli embassy spokesperson Guy Nir confirmed the incident, stating that the blast occurred in close proximity to the embassy around 5.48 pm. The Delhi police and other agencies are currently investigating the situation.

In response to the incident, the Israeli National Security Council has recommended that Israeli nationals in New Delhi avoid crowded places such as malls and markets, as well as places identified as serving Westerners/Jews and Israelis. They are also advised to remain vigilant in public places, including restaurants, hotels, and pubs.

The recommendations include avoiding the open display of Israeli symbols, refraining from attending unsecured large-scale events, and not publicising itineraries on social media, including photographs and real-time details of visits.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry stated that there were no casualties in the explosion and emphasised that the incident is under investigation by local authorities in cooperation with Israeli security forces.

Security measures around the Israeli embassy and other Israeli establishments have been heightened after the incident.

Earlier this month, the Israeli National Security Council had already warned Israelis to reconsider travel abroad and avoid outward displays of their Jewish and Israeli identities. This comes amid bombardment in Gaza by Israel that continues from October 7 killing more than 20,000 Palestinians- majority of them children and women.
