Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they attacked the “spy headquarters” of Israel in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, Reuters reported.

The strikes come amid concerns about the escalation of a conflict that has spread through the Middle East since the war between Israel and Palestine began on October 7, with Iran’s allies also entering the fray from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

Explosions were reported in the vicinity of the US Consulate in Erbil, Iraq, according to information from ABC News, citing an Iraqi security source. The responsibility for these attacks has been claimed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGS) has taken responsibility for the attacks, ABC News reported. The IRGS said it was targeting the “headquarters of spies” and “anti-Iranian terrorist gatherings in parts of the region” with ballistic missiles.

As per ABC News, four people lost their lives in the bombings carried out by the IRGC, with the Iraqi security source emphasising that no coalition forces or American troops were reported killed in the Erbil bombing.

Additionally, the source revealed that coalition forces successfully intercepted three drones near Erbil airport, resulting in the suspension of air traffic in the region.

Describing the bombing as particularly violent, the Iraqi security source provided details that eight locations near the US Consulate were targeted during the attack. The situation remains dynamic, and authorities are actively responding to the incidents in Erbil.
