Ganderbal: District authorities in Ganderbal have launched 24×7 helpline numbers for the safety of women.
According to an official, a prominent feature of this initiative is the introduction of 24×7 helpline numbers, prominently displayed on posters circulated in the district.
These helpline numbers are designed to empower female victims and witnesses to report incidents promptly, especially within the realm of public transport, it said.
“The primary goal of this initiative is to create a safer environment for all public transportation users. Authorities are urging the community to actively engage in reporting any such incidents, contributing to the collective effort in curbing harassment against women,” it added.
The Helpline Numbers are SAKHI-One Stop Centre: 0194-2416260-261. Special cell for women (Ganderbal): 8899258731.
“The District Administration encourages everyone to be vigilant and proactive in promoting a safe and secure public transportation system. The success of these measures relies on the active participation of the community, and together, we can create an environment where everyone feels protected and respected during their travels,” it said.
Sobia Shabir, a Social Worker (Special cell for women’s Ganderbal) said that women are welcome to get in touch with them if they are afraid to disclose instances of harassment.
“We will hold awareness-raising camps with drivers, conductors and other individuals involved in transportation,” she added. (KNO)
