Jaipur: On Wednesday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi officially filed her nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls from Rajasthan.

Accompanied by senior Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, Sonia Gandhi arrived at the Rajasthan Assembly for the nomination process. Notably, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were also present during this significant event.

The formal announcement of Sonia Gandhi’s candidacy came after her arrival in Jaipur earlier that morning. Alongside Sonia, the party declared the names of three more leaders for Rajya Sabha nominations: Abhishek Manu Singhvi from Himachal Pradesh, Akhilesh Prasad Singh from Bihar, and Chandrakant Handore from Maharashtra.

Sonia Gandhi is set to enter the Rajya Sabha by occupying the seat vacated by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. In a Congress Legislative Party meeting held in Jaipur to welcome her and the nominated team, state President Govind Singh Dotasra expressed confidence that Sonia Gandhi’s presence in the Rajya Sabha would boost the morale of party workers.

Dotasra stated, “This is a matter of pride for Rajasthan,” highlighting the significance of Sonia Gandhi’s entry into the upper house. Following Dotasra’s remarks, leader of opposition Tika Ram Jully and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also spoke, welcoming the Gandhi family and emphasising the positive and enthusiastic atmosphere among party workers.

The Congress leaders collectively celebrated Sonia Gandhi’s nomination as a crucial step for the party in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
