Bengaluru: B S Yediyurappa, a former chief minister of Karnataka and a leader of the BJP party, is facing serious accusations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for ‘sexually assaulting’ a minor at his home in Bengaluru last month.
The accusation came after a woman visited his house on February 2, seeking justice for her daughter who was a victim of rape. She asked for a special team to investigate the case.
According to the complaint, Yediyurappa allegedly took the minor to a room, closed the door, and assaulted her. When confronted, he reportedly said he was checking if the girl had been raped. He later apologised and asked the woman not to tell anyone.
The police in Bengaluru have registered a case against Yediyurappa under the POCSO Act and the Indian Penal Code.
Yediyurappa has responded to the allegations by saying that he helped the victim and her mother when they came to his house seeking assistance about a month and a half ago. He claims he called the city’s police commissioner for help and gave them money because they were in trouble. However, he feels betrayed now that a case has been filed against him despite his efforts to help.
