Shopian: Two people were arrested in Shopian for scamming money from families by posing as close associates of the police.
According to the police, the scam involved convincing families that they could secure the release of their detained relatives by paying a certain amount of money. The accused allegedly portrayed themselves as allies of the police force to gain trust and deceive unsuspecting victims.
The duo has been identified as Abdul Majeed Lone and Mohammad Iqbal Paul. They have been charged under sections 420, 506, and 170 of the Indian Penal Code.
