The Islamabad High Court (IHC) halted the punishment for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case on Monday, April 1.
The Toshakhana case was initiated in October 2022 by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which had previously disqualified Khan for concealing assets.
Toshakhana is a department managed by the Cabinet Division, responsible for storing valuable gifts bestowed upon leaders, parliamentarians, bureaucrats, and officials by heads of other governments, states, and foreign dignitaries.
The controversy surrounding Toshakhana emerged when the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified Khan, citing “false statements and incorrect declaration.”
Khan was accused of misusing his tenure as prime minister from 2018 to 2022 by engaging in the purchase and sale of state gifts, valued at over Rs 140 million ($635,000), received during international visits.
