New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, had a restless first night in Tihar jail, where he is being held until April 15 in connection with a case related to the excise policy, PTI reported.

The report quoting a prison official, said, Kejriwal, who is being held in a 14×8 feet cell alone, had difficulty sleeping and paced up and down his cell for a while. His sugar level was below 50 when he arrived at Tihar jail at 4pm on Monday, and he was given medication based on doctors’ advice.

Kejriwal has been assigned jail number two, becoming the first sitting chief minister to be lodged at Asia’s largest prison. His wife and children are expected to visit him on Tuesday, according to an official. He was served tea in the afternoon and received home-cooked food for dinner.

He reportedly slept on a cement platform for some time and was seen walking in his cell late at night. His sugar level remained low in the morning, and he is under the observation of Tihar jail doctors. He is allowed to have home-cooked meals for lunch and dinner until his sugar level returns to normal.

A Delhi court extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody until April 15, noting the contention of the Enforcement Directorate that his release could hamper the investigation into the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case.
